Two Soldiers Injured in Bandit Attack on Niger Military Base

Two soldiers are currently hospitalised after sustaining injuries during a bandit attack on their military base in Tegina, Rafi Local Government Area, Niger State.

Rafi is known as one of the high-risk areas in the state, frequently targeted by bandits, making farming and daily activities perilous for the residents.

The incident occurred early Monday morning during a fierce gun battle between the soldiers and the bandits. During the confrontation, a leader among the bandits was killed.

According to sources, the bandits were attempting to move into Mashegu and Wushishi Local Government Areas to rustle cattle when they encountered the soldiers.

Ayuba Katako, Chairman of Rafi Local Government Area, confirmed the attack in a phone conversation with our correspondent.

“The two soldiers who were shot have been admitted to IBB Specialist Hospital, Minna, and are receiving treatment,” Katako stated. He commended the efforts of the military, police, and vigilantes in their continuous efforts to maintain peace and security in the state.

Katako also expressed concern over the persistent attacks on security personnel and called for patience, support, and prayers from the community to address the insecurity challenges facing the state and the nation as a whole.

Attempts to reach the state military cantonment in Minna for comments were unsuccessful. Similarly, the police spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, was not available at the time of filing this report.
