SAEMA 2024: Gen. Olukolade Advocates Stronger Inter-Agency Collaboration to Tackle Insecurity

The Chairman of the Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC), Major General Chris Olukolade (rtd.), has urged security institutions to enhance and sustain robust inter-agency collaboration in their operations.

Speaking at the 6th edition of the Security and Emergency Management Awards (SAEMA 2024) held in Abuja, General Olukolade emphasized that fostering harmony and mutual relationships among security personnel is crucial for strengthening national security.

He noted that a collaborative approach facilitates effective information gathering and intelligence sharing, which are critical for neutralizing and preventing security threats.

“No security institution should operate in isolation if it is truly committed to fulfilling its constitutional mandates. Complementing efforts among sister agencies is critical,” he stated.

General Olukolade also congratulated the award winners, urging them to view the recognition as a catalyst for delivering higher-impact contributions toward enhanced security and emergency management in Nigeria.

Delivering the keynote address, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration and civil-military relations in addressing modern security challenges.

He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to ensuring national stability and pledged support for government initiatives aimed at promoting peace and security.

In his welcome address, Malam Yushau Shuaib, the Chief Executive Officer of Image Merchants Promotion (IMPR), explained that SAEMA, established in 2019, celebrates exceptional individuals and organizations making significant contributions to security, crisis management, and emergency services across Nigeria.

Malam Shuaib outlined the rigorous nomination process, which involves recommendations from PRNigeria and Emergency Digest readers, alongside inputs from security professionals, experts, and independent observers. He also detailed the verification mechanisms designed to validate nominees’ achievements, ensuring the award’s credibility.

SAEMA recognizes outstanding contributions in various categories, including institutional awards for Crime Prevention, Public Information Management, Cybercrime Prevention, Emergency Management, and Civil-Military Relations. Other categories include Community Service, Diligent Investigation, Training Institute of the Year, Volunteer Group, and Private Security Company Awards.

The individual awards honour achievements such as Outstanding Crisis Communicator, Law Enforcement Officer, Security Officer, Military Officer, Defence/Humanitarian Journalist, and Awards of Excellence for distinguished personalities.

PRNigeria reports that the SAEMA continues to inspire excellence and innovation across Nigeria’s security and emergency management sectors.
