Dr. Muhammed Bello Matawalle, MON, have unequivocally condemned the heinous attack on military personnel during a peacekeeping mission by the 181 Amphibious Battalion in Okuama Community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State. The Ministers emphasized that those responsible for this brutal act must be brought to justice promptly.
The tragic event unfolded on Thursday, March 14, 2024, when Nigerian troops, responding to a crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities in Delta State, were ambushed. This cowardly attack resulted in the grievous loss of the Commanding Officer of the 181 Amphibious Battalion, Lt. Col. A.H. Ali, two Majors, a Captain, 12 soldiers, and an innocent civilian. The Honourable Ministers expressed their profound sorrow and highlighted the immense sacrifices made by these brave servicemen in defense of the nation. “This tragic incident underscores the immense sacrifices made by our servicemen and women in the defence of our nation. Their unwavering dedication and courage in the face of danger exemplify the highest ideals of patriotism and duty,” the Ministers stated.
In response to this appalling incident, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has directed the Chief of Defence Staff to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the perpetrators face the full force of the law.
