Defence Chief Reaffirms Armed Forces’ Commitment to Global Peacekeeping Missions
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, has reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to United Nations (UN) peacekeeping missions, highlighting Nigeria’s strategic role in global and regional stability.
During a meeting in Abuja with the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Mohammed Fall, Musa underscored the importance of collaborative efforts between the UN and Nigerian authorities, particularly state governments, to facilitate the safe return of displaced persons and refugees to their communities. He also advocated for stronger global security partnerships to address emerging threats.
Emphasizing the significance of civil-military relations, the CDS noted that fostering trust and cooperation with civilian populations is often more effective than relying solely on military force in conflict resolution and peacebuilding efforts.
In response, Fall commended Nigeria’s longstanding contributions to UN peacekeeping missions, recognizing the country as one of the most active participants in maintaining peace across Africa and beyond. He called for increased international support for the Nigerian Armed Forces, stressing Nigeria’s crucial role in regional security and its influence as a key player in African leadership.
As Nigeria continues to strengthen its commitment to global peace initiatives, the discussions signal a renewed focus on strategic partnerships and sustainable peace efforts both within and beyond the nation’s borders.
