CCC Sets 2025 Security Agenda for Nigerian Forces, Backs EFCC’s Anti-Corruption Drive
The Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC) has outlined a strategic agenda aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency and public engagement of Nigeria’s security forces in 2025. In a press briefing held on February 4, 2025, the CCC commended the Nigerian military and other security agencies for their relentless efforts in addressing internal security challenges but emphasized the need for further consolidation of these achievements.
According to Major General Chris Olukolade (Rtd), Chairman of the CCC, the proposed agenda focuses on five key areas: communication strategy, operational precision, community collaboration, inter-agency cooperation, and technological innovation.
Enhancing Communication for Transparency and Public Trust
The CCC underscored the importance of a more responsive and structured communication strategy within the security sector. It recommended that security forces adopt a professional approach to crisis communication by providing timely and accurate updates on security operations. This, the Centre noted, would help counter misinformation, promote transparency, and build public confidence.
“A strategic communication framework must be in place to ensure that security information is disseminated effectively, avoiding information overload while maintaining clarity for the general public,” Olukolade stated.
Operational Precision and Civilian Protection
The CCC urged security forces to maintain precision in their operations to minimize collateral damage and enhance public trust. It emphasized the need for continuous investment in advanced training, intelligence gathering, and equipment handling to ensure adherence to established engagement protocols.
“The Nigerian public must see clear evidence that our security forces prioritize the safety of civilians through strict adherence to engagement rules and mitigation measures against unintended casualties,” the Chairman added.
Strengthening Community and Inter-Agency Collaboration
Recognizing the crucial role of local communities in security operations, the CCC called for stronger engagement with traditional leaders and grassroots stakeholders. Such collaborations, it argued, would improve intelligence gathering and help security forces develop more targeted and effective responses to emerging threats.
Similarly, the Centre commended the reduced incidents of inter-agency clashes and encouraged sustained cooperation among the military, intelligence, and law enforcement agencies. Enhanced synergy, it noted, would streamline operations, optimize resources, and strengthen national security efforts.
Leveraging Technology for Enhanced Security Operations
The CCC urged Nigerian security forces to integrate cutting-edge technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), into their intelligence and operational strategies. AI-driven analytics, it noted, could enhance data processing, improve threat detection, and support proactive security measures.
“Leveraging advanced technology will not only improve operational efficiency but also position our security forces ahead of evolving security challenges,” Olukolade emphasized.
Support for EFCC’s Anti-Corruption Drive
Beyond security, the CCC also applauded the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its renewed vigor in tackling corruption, particularly in high-profile cases. It emphasized the importance of strategic communication in amplifying the EFCC’s successes and countering misinformation campaigns orchestrated by corrupt entities.
“As observers of the EFCC’s anti-corruption initiatives, we recognize its pivotal role in fostering transparency and accountability. We urge the agency to strengthen its media engagement strategies to combat disinformation and maintain public confidence in its mandate,” the CCC stated.
The Centre further called on Nigerians to actively support the EFCC’s mission to rid the country of corruption, asserting that a collective effort was necessary to build a transparent and accountable governance system.
Reaffirming its commitment to national security and anti-corruption efforts, the CCC pledged continued collaboration with security agencies and the EFCC to advance Nigeria’s stability and governance reforms.
