Bandits Kill Six, Abduct Many in Sokoto Village During Eid-el Kabir Celebrations

In a tragic incident, at least six people lost their lives in an attack by bandits on Tudun Doki village in the Gwadabawa Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The attack occurred as Muslims were celebrating Eid-el Kabir, casting a shadow over the festivities.

Ahmed Rufai, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, confirmed the attack, which took place in the early hours of Sunday. Rufai reported that six bodies were recovered following the assault, but the exact number of people abducted by the bandits remains unclear.

“The village is far from the main town and accessing it is very difficult due to the poor condition of the roads,” Rufai explained. “Vehicles cannot reach the village, so most operatives have to go there on motorcycles.”

Rufai detailed the challenges faced by the police in responding to the attack. “We received reports about the six people confirmed dead. The incident happened early in the morning when people were preparing to go to the mosque for prayers, which hampered our immediate response. We had to transport the deceased to the hospital, where they were officially pronounced dead.”

As the police continue their efforts to secure the area, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and his team have been mobilized to ascertain the number of those abducted. “As I speak to you now, the DPO and his men are on the ground, working to determine the full extent of the abductions,” Rufai added.

The attack on Tudun Doki village underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region, where banditry, terrorism, and kidnappings have become rampant. This incident highlights the vulnerability of remote communities and the difficulties faced by security forces in providing timely assistance.

As families in Sokoto State and across Nigeria gather to celebrate Eid-el Kabir, the attack serves as a grim reminder of the persistent threat posed by banditry. The community of Tudun Doki mourns their loss, while authorities continue their efforts to restore peace and security in the area.
