Army Raids IPOB Camp in Abia, Kills Six
In a significant operation, troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation UDO KA raided an Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) camp located in Igboro Forest, Abia State, on Saturday. This raid aimed to apprehend the individuals responsible for the recent killing of five soldiers at Obikabia Junction in Aba.
A statement released by the Nigerian Army on Sunday via X.com detailed the objectives and outcomes of the raid. “In order to apprehend the perpetrators of the attack on our troops (three of whom are from the Southeast) at Aba last week, as well as to recover arms and ammunition from the Indigenous People of Biafra and its affiliate Eastern Security Network terrorist group, troops of Operation UDO KA conducted another successful clearance/raid operation on the IPOB/ESN camp in Igboro Forest in Arochukwu LGA of Abia State yesterday,” the statement read.
During the operation, the troops encountered and subdued the IPOB militants in a firefight, resulting in the deaths of six members of the group. “During the intelligence-led operation, troops encountered improvised explosive devices along the axis of advance, and one soldier sustained a minor injury from the fragment,” the statement added.
The superior firepower of the troops effectively neutralized the terrorists, causing others to flee into the surrounding bushes with varying degrees of gunshot wounds, evidenced by bloodstains along their escape routes.
The operation also led to the recovery of significant weaponry and other items. The soldiers recovered three locally fabricated rocket-propelled grenade launchers, two locally fabricated artillery guns with tripods, and bombs. Additionally, they found and destroyed Dane guns, Biafran flags, vehicles, and the camp itself.
The Joint Task Force Operation UDO KA urged residents of Abia State to continue providing security forces with credible and timely information to aid in the eradication of criminal elements in the state and the broader southeastern region.
In response to the attack on the soldiers, Abia State Governor Alex Otti announced an increase in the bounty on the killers from N25 million to N30 million. Governor Otti also indicated that the state government is collaborating with security agencies to ensure such incidents do not recur.
These coordinated efforts reflect the ongoing commitment of the Nigerian Army and state authorities to combat insurgency and enhance security across the nation. The successful operation underscores the resolve of the military to maintain peace and order while addressing threats posed by militant groups.
Governor Otti’s proactive measures, including the increased bounty and enhanced cooperation with security agencies, are aimed at preventing future attacks and ensuring the safety of residents. The state’s dedication to improving security infrastructure and intelligence-gathering capabilities demonstrates a robust approach to tackling insurgency and protecting the populace.
As the Nigerian Army continues its efforts to dismantle militant camps and neutralize threats, the support and vigilance of local communities remain crucial. By working together, the military and civilians can achieve a more secure and stable environment, fostering peace and development in the region.
