Air Chief Launches Investigation into Zamfara Accidental Airstrike
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has constituted a fact-finding team to investigate allegations of civilian casualties in the recent Nigerian Air Force (NAF) airstrikes in Zamfara State.
The team, led by Air Vice Marshal Edward K. Gabkwet, Director of Coordination and Cooperation in the Civil-Military Relations Branch of NAF Headquarters, has been tasked with conducting a thorough inquiry into the incident.
The investigation will involve consultations with state and local government officials, as well as other critical stakeholders, to ensure a comprehensive assessment of the situation and facilitate appropriate responses.
In a statement issued by the NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Olusola F. Akinboyewa, the CAS states the NAF’s unwavering commitment to professionalism, transparency, and adherence to global operational standards.
He reassured Nigerians that the Service remains dedicated to safeguarding lives and civilian infrastructure while pursuing national security objectives.
Air Marshal Abubakar further reiterated the importance of public trust in enhancing operational effectiveness and pledged to continuously refine NAF procedures to minimize civilian casualties during military operations.
